Environment
Environmental biotechnology is a growing field in areas such as waste and water management, bioremediation and alternative energies. These areas, being multidisciplinary, have inspired the formation of the environment section of BioTech Montreal. Based on the same networking model as for the pharma-related events, the environment-related events aim to bring together professionals of the corporate world and the public sector under one roof in a social and convivial setting to exchange information, ideas and contacts in a casual atmosphere.
Considering the success of the first environment-related event, that brought together more than 80 professionals from various fields, we have the pleasure to invite you to the first networking event of BioTech Montreal in partnership with CRIBIQ (Consortium de recherche et innovations en bioprocédés industriels au Québec) that will take place on March 20th, 2012.
This is a joint-event will focus on biomethanization and on environmental technologies (waste and water treatment, soil remediation and bioenergies).
The event will be divided in 2 parts: First, a scientific and technical workshop on biogas will be organized by the CRIBIQ; Second, a networking event organized by BioTech Montreal will take place to consolidate the discussions initiated at the workshops.
Event description
Part I (CRIBIQ): Biomethanization workshop
The CRIBIQ, in collaboration with the CNETE and Biopterre, organized in October 2011 a symposium on anaerobic digestion in Rivière-du-Loup that has attracted 130 professionals. Three priorities with biogas in Quebec were raised after this conference to accelerate the development of bio-industrial sector in Quebec. In order to prioritize future development paths of biogas in Quebec, a scientific and technical workshop will focus on 3 prioritized topics:
1. How to develop an integrated vision of the anaerobic digestion sector
2. Development of the agricultural anaerobic digestion sector
3. Developing an energy strategy around anaerobic digestion
This event will conclude with a visit of the anaerobic digestion laboratory and pilot plant located at the BRI-NRC.
Date and time: March 20th, 2012 from 1h30 pm till 4h30pm
Location: Biotechnology Research Institute – National Research Council of Canada
6100 Royalmount avenue, Montreal, Qc, H4P 2R2
Part II (BioTech Montreal): Networking session
Following the workshops, the networking event will start with a short talk given by Dr. Serge Guiot (Head of the Environmental Bio-Engineering group, National Research Council,Montreal) on bioenergies and waste to energy strategies.
Thanks to the suggestions and feedback that we received during our last event, the entire supply chain (upstream and downstream) of environmental activities will be invited to join us. We also hope for the presence of more people involved in municipal waste and water treatment. Moreover, environmental nanotechnology will also be invited.
Date and time: March 20th, 2012 from 7h pm till 10h pm
Location: Phillips Lounge, 1184, place Phillips, Montréal, Qc H3B 3C8
